Alumina wear-resisting ceramics commonly used forming technology
12-07-2022

There are many methods of forming alumina wear-resistant ceramics, such as extrusion molding, injection molding, dry pressing molding, hot pressing molding, etc. In recent years, many new forming technologies have been developed at home and abroad. The ceramic roller used in the glass tempering furnace can be shaped differently according to the shape and size of the product. The two most common molding processes are described below:

Grouting forming method: This is the earliest alumina wear-resistant ceramic forming process. The low cost price is suitable for the workpiece with complex shape and large size. The alumina paste of this molding method is usually made with water as the medium and then a binder and a gelling agent are added. After grinding out, finally into the plaster mold. In hollow grouting, when the mold wall absorbs mud of sufficient thickness, it also needs to pour out the excess mud to reduce the shrinkage of the billet body, so it is necessary to choose the highest concentration of mud as far as possible.

Dry pressing molding: This molding process is only used for simple shape, internal thickness of more than 1mm, diameter and length of not more than 4:1 workpiece. There are two methods: uniaxial and biaxial. Press is divided into mechanical room press and hydraulic press. There are automatic and semi-automatic molding methods. The press has a maximum pressure of 200 mpa and can produce about 15-50 workpieces per minute. Because the travel pressure distribution of the hydraulic press is equal, the height of the workpiece will be different when the powder is filled. In contrast, the mechanical pressure will produce a corresponding pressure with the amount of powder filled. The size is easy to shrink after sintering, which affects the quality of the product. Therefore, the uneven distribution of powder in the process of dry pressing is particularly important for the filling, which has a great influence on the precise size control of the alumina wear-resistant ceramic parts.
