Energy-saving Coatings for Improving the Heat Storage Capability of Regenerative Balls in Steel Works

The flux (limestone) for iron ore, coke and slagging is loaded from the top of the blast furnace, and the preheated air is blown into the tuyere located at the lower part of the furnace along the periphery of the furnace. At high temperature, carbon in coke (some blast furnaces also inject auxiliary fuels such as pulverized coal, heavy oil and natural gas) combusts with oxygen in the air to produce carbon monoxide and hydrogen, which remove oxygen from iron ore during the process of rising in the furnace, thus reducing to iron. The molten iron is discharged from the taphole. The unreduced impurities in iron ore are combined with fluxes such as limestone to form slag, which is discharged from the slag mouth. The produced gas is discharged from the top of the furnace and is used as fuel for hot blast stoves, heating furnaces, coke ovens and boilers after dust removal. The main products of blast furnace smelting are pig iron, byproduct blast furnace slag and blast furnace gas.


In order to improve the utilization rate of heat energy and reduce energy consumption, regenerative balls are commonly used as waste heat recovery in blast furnaces. By double preheating of gas (blast furnace, converter) and air (oil, high calorific value gas, etc.), single regenerative air can reduce the exhaust gas volume of regenerative reheating furnace by 20-50%, and the exhaust gas temperature can be reduced to less than 150 degrees. The environmental protection and energy saving effects of 15-20% increase in output, 50% reduction in heating time of billet and 30-50% reduction in oxidation burning loss are achieved.


The regenerative ball is suitable for the selection of regenerative ball combustion system in gas and non-gas fuel industrial furnaces. It is especially suitable for virtual heating furnace, regenerative ladle baker, regenerator of air separation equipment in air separation industry, regenerative melting furnace in non-ferrous metal industry, regenerative trolley furnace and regenerative type in large forging plant. Electric boilers, regenerative incinerators and other industries are used as heat storage carriers.
